According to a report from Wired, the AI's accuracy is far from reliable. Adults in their {stat:20s are being mistakenly categorized as teenagers, while children have successfully tricked the system. In one viral clip, a young boy bypassed the verification by drawing a mustache on his face with a marker, leading the AI to identify him as over 21.
The fallout extends beyond technical glitches. A dark market has emerged on eBay, where age-verified accounts are being auctioned to the highest bidder. This trend potentially grants predators the very access the system was designed to prevent. Developers also report that chat activity has plummeted by {stat:50% in some games, threatening the platform's social core.
Roblox Defends the 'Scale' of the Undertaking
Despite the backlash, Roblox Chief Safety Officer Matt Kaufman remains firm. In a statement to {keyword:Mashable, he argued that expecting a flawless rollout at this scale is unrealistic. "We are building for the next decade of the internet, not the next news cycle," Kaufman stated, emphasizing that tens of millions have already successfully completed the process.
The company has pledged to improve detection for fraudulent behavior and periodically re-check ages if misrepresentation is suspected. Roblox also clarified that Persona does not retain biometric data, deleting images immediately after the verification is complete to address privacy concerns.
