Meta Inks Massive Nuclear Deals to Fuel 'Prometheus' AI Supercluster

Mark Zuckerberg isn't just building the future of social media; he's securing the power to run it. Meta announced Friday that it has secured agreements with three major energy providers—Vistra, TerraPower, and Oklo—to power its upcoming Prometheus supercluster. This massive computing system, currently under construction in Ohio, is central to Meta's goal of achieving superintelligence.

The scale of the deal is staggering. By 2035, these projects are expected to generate 6.6 gigawatts (GW) of power. To put that into perspective, it's more than the total energy demand of the entire state of New Hampshire. Meta will fund Vistra's existing nuclear plants in Ohio and Pennsylvania to extend their operational life, while also betting on next-gen technologies from TerraPower and Oklo. Notably, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman holds a 4.3% stake in Oklo, which is valued at approximately $650 million.
