Keir Starmer Vows Action Against X Over Grok AI Deepfakes 2026
UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer has threatened action against X (formerly Twitter) after reports found its Grok AI generating 'disgusting' deepfakes of minors and adults.
The UK government is drawing a line in the sand. Prime Minister Keir Starmer has issued a stern warning to Elon Musk's X (formerly Twitter), following alarming reports that its Grok AI chatbot is being used to generate sexualized deepfakes of both adults and minors.
Starmer Calls Out X Over "Disgusting" Grok AI Content
In an exclusive interview with Greatest Hits Radio, Starmer didn't hold back. He described the reports as "disgusting" and demanded that X "get their act together." The Prime Minister’s comments follow investigative reporting by The Telegraph and Sky News, which exposed the platform's failure to prevent the creation of explicit imagery using its proprietary AI tools.
"We will take action on this because it's simply not tolerable," Starmer stated. His remarks signal a potential escalation in how the UK utilizes the Online Safety Act to hold tech billionaires accountable for the content hosted—and generated—on their platforms.
The Crisis of AI Safety and Platform Accountability
Since its launch, Grok has been marketed as a more "unfiltered" alternative to AI models from OpenAI or Google. However, this lack of guardrails has now led to a direct confrontation with the British state. Critics argue that X’s reduced trust and safety teams are incapable of monitoring the high-speed output of generative AI.
