Wing, an Alphabet company, is expanding its drone delivery partnership with Walmart to 150 additional stores by 2027, aiming to serve 10% of the US population with rapid aerial logistics.

Forget waiting for the delivery truck. Alphabet-owned Wing and Walmart are taking their partnership to new heights—literally. The two giants announced a massive scale-up that'll bring on-demand drone delivery to the doorsteps of millions more Americans.

The expansion will add 150 more Walmart stores to Wing's service network. According to new Chief Business Officer Heather Rivera, the rollout will continue through 2027, with a major launch in Houston scheduled for January 15, 2026. Once complete, the service will operate from over 270 locations, covering roughly 10% of the U.S. population.

The demand is already there. Rivera noted that their top 25% of customers use the service three times a week. It's not just for tech enthusiasts anymore; it's for everyday essentials. Frequent orders include eggs, ground beef, tomatoes, and even snacks like Takis. To handle heavier groceries, Wing recently completed commercial flights for a larger aircraft capable of carrying a 5-pound payload.

From Pilot Program to Logistics Powerhouse

While Wing maintains a partnership with DoorDash, its primary commercial engine remains Walmart. By co-locating at existing retail sites, Wing integrates directly into the store's operations, creating a high-volume 'flywheel' effect. This strategy focuses on clustering store openings to scale business economics efficiently.
