Mass Stabbing and Chemical Attack at Japan’s Yokohama Rubber Factory Leaves 15 Injured

Fifteen people were injured in a coordinated assault at a factory in Mishima, southwest of Tokyo. According to the Fujisan Nanto Fire Department, a man armed with a knife and chemical spray attacked workers at the Yokohama Rubber Co plant on December 26, 2025.

Dual-Threat Assault: Knives and Bleach

The attack involved two distinct methods of harm. Eight people suffered stab wounds, while seven others were sprayed with a bleach-like chemical agent. The Associated Press reported that five victims are in serious condition but remain conscious. Investigators found that the suspect was wearing a gas mask and carrying a survival knife during the rampage.

Suspect in Custody

The Shizuoka Prefectural Police arrested a 38-year-old man at the scene. He is currently being charged with attempted murder. While police believe he acted alone, his motive remains unclear. Local residents expressed shock, noting that the area is typically quiet and safe.

Violent crime is historically rare in Japan, but this incident follows a string of high-profile attacks, including the 2022 assassination of Shinzo Abe. The nation continues to grapple with occasional stabbing rampages despite having some of the world's strictest weapon laws.
