Lego Smart Play: Screen-Free Interactive Tech Debuts at CES 2026

2 min readSource

Lego unveiled 'Smart Play' at CES 2026, a screen-free interactive platform. New Star Wars sets with Smart Bricks and Minifigures launch March 1, 2026.

Lego's making a bold move to reclaim the playroom from digital screens. At CES 2026 in Las Vegas, the Danish toy giant unveiled Lego Smart Play, a new platform that embeds advanced sensors and real-time interaction into its iconic plastic blocks—without requiring a smartphone or tablet.

Inside the Lego Smart Play Technology

The heart of the system is the Smart Brick, which retains the standard 2x4 dimensions but packs a 4.1mm custom ASIC chip. Developed alongside Cambridge Consultants, this 'brain' coordinates light effects and real-time audio through a miniature analog synthesizer. It's packed with accelerometers, light sensors, and sound sensors to react to how a child plays.

New Star Wars Sets Lead the 2026 Launch

The platform will officially launch on March 1, 2026, featuring three iconic Lego Star Wars sets. Fans can start pre-ordering these tech-infused kits on January 9.

Safety is a priority. Since the system isn't internet-connected, Lego claims it's shielded from the hacking vulnerabilities often seen in AI-powered toys. Every Smart Minifigure carries a unique digital ID on an internal chip, allowing the Smart Brick to recognize exactly who is entering the 'battle' and trigger the appropriate audio responses.
