According to Yonhap News, the allegations center on Kang allegedly taking 100 million won (US$69,400) from a Seoul city councilor. Police launched a formal probe on Wednesday after opposition lawmakers filed a bribery complaint. Investigators are looking into whether the money was funneled through one of her aides.

Audio Recordings and Party Expulsion
The scandal gained massive traction after a local outlet released audio recordings. In the clips, Kang reportedly discussed the matter with Rep. Kim Byung-kee, who served as the secretary of the party's Seoul nomination committee at the time. Kim resigned from his post as floor leader on Tuesday.
While Kang chose to quit, the DP leadership decided to expel her anyway, signaling a zero-tolerance stance. The party's also seeking swift disciplinary measures against Kim via its ethics committee.
