The voice that defined Spanish romance for decades is facing its darkest hour. Grammy-winning singer Julio Iglesias, 82, is under investigation by Spanish prosecutors following chilling allegations of sexual assault, human trafficking, and physical abuse from former employees.

Disturbing Allegations from Domestic Staff

According to reports from Reuters and The New York Times, the investigation centers on a formal complaint filed at Spain’s Audiencia Nacional on Jan 5. The details, made public on Jan 13, involve two women who worked at his residences in the Dominican Republic and the Bahamas.

One former domestic worker claims she was pressured into sexual acts and subjected to slaps and verbal abuse. A second employee, a physiotherapist, alleges inappropriate touching and constant humiliation. Most disturbingly, the victims claim they were forced to undergo medical tests for HIV and chlamydia as a condition of their employment.

A Legacy in Jeopardy

Iglesias is a global icon who has sold over 300 million records and won two Grammy Awards. However, his accolades are now being questioned. Spain’s Culture Minister, Ernest Urtasun, stated that the government is evaluating whether to strip him of the Gold Medal of Merit in the Fine Arts, which he received in 2010.

The non-governmental organization Women’s Link Worldwide is representing the survivors, who are seeking justice to ensure no other woman suffers similar abuse. Iglesias’s representatives have yet to issue a statement regarding the ongoing investigation.
