Jennifer Lawrence Took Ambien by Mistake, Hallucinated Through 'Hunger Games' Dance Scene with Philip Seymour Hoffman

One wrong pill, one major dance scene. Jennifer Lawrence has just revealed the on-set mix-up that led her to hallucinate while filming The Hunger Games: Catching Fire with the late Philip Seymour Hoffman.

Reuniting with her Don't Look Up costar Leonardo DiCaprio for Variety and CNN's "Actors on Actors" series, Lawrence shared that she's obsessive about sleep while working—a habit that has led to some disastrous mistakes.

"Wait, What Does This Mean?": The Ambien Incident

The most memorable mix-up happened on the set of the second Hunger Games movie. "I also once took an Ambien in the morning, thinking it was something else," Lawrence told DiCaprio. "It was a dance scene with Philip Seymour Hoffman... I was hallucinating."

The situation made it nearly impossible to remember her lines, which she said annoyed her costar Elizabeth Banks. "Maybe she didn’t know that I was on an Ambien, but I kept asking the director, 'Wait, and what does this mean?'" Lawrence recalled. "And she just threw her sides and said, 'Fine, let's just keep talking about it.'"

Lightning Strikes Twice: The 'Red Sparrow' Mix-Up

It wasn't a one-time occurrence. While filming Red Sparrow, she took an Adderall instead of a sleeping pill. "I didn't sleep all night," she said, explaining that she spent the night in a panic taking hot showers. To make matters worse, she then had to deliver the line "Senate Armed Services Committee" in a Russian accent, which she noted, "sucked."

Catching Fire marked Hoffman's entry into the Hunger Games franchise as games master Plutarch Heavensbee. He died in 2014 at the age of 46 while filming the final two installments.
