Even a self-proclaimed 'franchise killer' can find a fan in his own home. George Clooney recently revealed that he finally broke his long-standing rule and allowed his 8-year-old son to watch the infamous 1997 film Batman & Robin.

According to an interview with W published on Tuesday, the Jay Kelly star decided to show the movie after his son, Alexander, chose to dress as Batman for Halloween. Despite Clooney's repeated claims that he was once the Caped Crusader, his son never believed him. "I always say to him, 'You know I was Batman.' He's always like, 'No,'" Clooney joked during the interview.

The screening was a success, at least by 8-year-old standards. Clooney noted that while the film "wasn't great for grown-ups," it was perfect for a child's imagination. This marks a significant pivot for the Oscar winner, who previously told Variety in 2021 that he wanted his wife, Amal, and their children to maintain some "respect" for him by never seeing the movie.

From Franchise Regrets to Netflix Success

Clooney has long been vocal about his dissatisfaction with his performance in the Joel Schumacher-helmed film. When Michael Keaton and Ben Affleck returned for 2023's 'The Flash', Clooney quipped that he wasn't invited because he "destroyed the franchise." However, his career remains rock solid. He is currently starring in the Netflix original Jay Kelly, which has been performing well on the streaming platform since late 2025.
