A cancer diagnosis in Gaza has effectively become an immediate death sentence. According to reports from Al Jazeera, over 11,000 cancer patients are currently stranded in the enclave, barred from seeking treatment abroad while the local healthcare system lies in ruins. Since the start of the conflict in October 2023, the cancer-related death rate has surged threefold.

The Turkish-Palestinian Friendship Hospital, once the Strip's sole oncology hub, is now a hollowed-out shell. After being repurposed as a military site by Israeli forces and later bombed, it stands as a grim symbol of the medical collapse. Doctors have been forced into makeshift clinics at the Nasser Medical Complex, where they lack the basic equipment to diagnose or treat the disease.

Aid Paradox: Chocolates Allowed, Medicine Blocked

Despite official claims of aid flow, the ground reality is starkly different. Abu Nada dismissed these reports as propaganda, noting that while commercial goods like chocolates and nuts have entered, life-saving drugs have not. It's estimated that 60% to 70% of cancer treatment protocols are completely unavailable. Without a full sequence of chemotherapy drugs, the entire treatment becomes ineffective, allowing the disease to spread unchecked.

In Khan Younis alone, two to three cancer patients die every single day. Currently, 3,250 patients have official referrals for treatment abroad but can't cross the border due to the closure of the Rafah crossing and Israeli bans on medical evacuations. Appeals to the World Health Organization have so far failed to secure the necessary supplies.
