A new administrative order for Gaza is taking shape, but its architects aren't from the territory itself. US President Donald Trump has invited the leaders of Egypt and Turkiye to join a powerful new "Board of Peace" designed to govern the besieged enclave after the war.

On January 16, 2026, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan received a formal letter from Trump inviting him to be a founding member of the board. Simultaneously, Egypt's Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty confirmed that President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi is reviewing a similar invitation. The board, chaired by Trump himself, is set to oversee a Palestinian technocratic body during a transitional period.

The high-profile executive board includes Secretary of State Marco Rubio, former British PM Tony Blair, and Jared Kushner. Other members include World Bank President Ajay Banga and billionaire Marc Rowan. Notably, Nickolay Mladenov has been named the High Representative for Gaza.

Security and International Cooperation

To maintain order, the White House announced the formation of the International Stabilisation Force, commanded by Army Major General Jasper Jeffers. This move follows a UN Security Council resolution passed in mid-November 2025. An additional "Gaza Executive Board" will feature Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan and the UAE minister for international cooperation, Reem al-Hashimy.

Critics Decry 'Colonial' Structure Amid Humanitarian Crisis

Rights experts have quickly slammed the board's composition, noting the total absence of Palestinians from the founding executive level. The inclusion of Tony Blair is particularly controversial given his legacy in the Iraq War. Critics argue the structure resembles a colonial administration rather than a self-governance initiative.

While a ceasefire has technically been in place since October 2025, it remains fragile. Israel has breached the truce repeatedly, killing over 450 Palestinians—including more than 100 children—in recent months. The total death toll in Gaza since October 2023 has reached a staggering 71,548.
