According to Entertainment Weekly, the Australian star—nominated for Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture (Musical or Comedy) for If I Had Legs I’d Kick You—revealed the bizarre reason during an appearance on The Tonight Show. While Byrne headed to the ceremony, Cannavale was at a reptile convention to secure a bearded dragon for their family.

"Bobby can't come, which is such a bummer," Byrne told host Jimmy Fallon. She explained that missing the expo would be a "parent fail" as they had promised their two sons a new pet. Despite the odd timing, Byrne supported the quest, jokingly stating that Cannavale was "doing God’s work" in New Jersey while she attended the gala with her brother, George.

Byrne and Cannavale have been together since 2012 and are known for their down-to-earth lifestyle despite their Hollywood A-list status.
