“When someone does an impersonation of you, you won.” For comedian Tracy Morgan, there's no higher form of flattery, especially when the person doing the impression is comedy legend Eddie Murphy. Morgan said he's not just flattered by Murphy's take on him—he considers it a profound honor.

Appearing on the talk show Sherri, Morgan explained his feelings to host Sherri Shepherd. According to Entertainment Weekly, when Shepherd noted that his distinct voice has inspired imitations from stars like Tina Fey and Jordan Peele, Morgan made it clear that one impersonator stands above all the rest: Eddie Murphy.

A Legendary Moment on SNL50

The pinnacle of this mutual respect came during the Saturday Night Live 50th anniversary special on February 16th. In a 'Black Jeopardy' sketch, Murphy played the role of Tracy Morgan, while Morgan himself appeared as another character named Darius. The 30 Rock star called the experience an "honor."

Their connection runs deep. “Eddie’s my guy,” Morgan stated, revealing, “Me and him talk almost every day on the phone.” He also recalled the 2019SNL monologue when Murphy hosted as a career highlight, where he stood on stage with Chris Rock, Dave Chappelle, and Kenan Thompson. The two also collaborated in the 2021 film Coming 2 America, and Morgan appears in Murphy's documentary Being Eddie, which was released on Netflix on November 12th.

Interestingly, Morgan admitted to suffering from "imposter syndrome," and believes his legendary friends are "funnier than me." However, he sees this not as a weakness but as a strength. "It helps me keep getting better," he explained, showing a humility that has likely fueled his long and successful career.
