According to Entertainment Weekly (EW), New Mexico authorities issued an arrest warrant on January 10, 2026. Busfield is charged with two counts of criminal sexual contact of a minor and one count of child abuse. The allegations involve two child actors who worked under his direction on the Fox series 'The Cleaning Lady' between Fall 2022 and Spring 2024.

The timing of the warrant adds a layer of complexity to the case. In mid-November, Gilbert posted on Instagram about the trauma of being expected to kiss a much older costar when she was just 15. It's now revealed that this post came just two weeks after she was present for a speakerphone call between Busfield and the police regarding the abuse allegations. While Busfield's representatives haven't responded to requests for comment, the warrant notes that one of the children has been diagnosed with PTSD following the alleged incidents.
