The New Year's Eve celebration at a premier Alpine destination has culminated in an international tragedy. Officials confirmed on January 5, 2026, that all 116 people injured in the Crans-Montana bar fire have now been identified.

The blaze, which ripped through the Le Constellation bar, claimed 40 lives. Victims were notably young, with ages ranging from 14 to 39 years old. While the deceased were identified earlier, established identifying the injured took longer due to the severity of the burns sustained by many survivors. Currently, 83 people remain hospitalized across Switzerland.

A criminal investigation is now underway targeting the French couple who managed the venue. Preliminary findings suggest that sparklers on bottles, carried too close to the ceiling, ignited the fire. Investigators are looking into whether the acoustic foam on the ceiling complied with fire safety regulations or acted as an accelerant.

International Mourning for Young Victims

The tragedy has affected at least 12 nationalities. Among the beautiful lives lost were Charlotte Niddam (15), a UK student, and Emanuele Galeppini (16), a promising Italian junior golfer. Families have begun sharing their grief on social media as they start the long process of mourning.
