While personal Gmail users have enjoyed this feature for over two years, it's been largely hidden for professional users behind a small smiley face icon next to the Forward button.

Streamlining Professional Communication

The update simplifies how we acknowledge emails. Instead of sending a full message, users can click the inconspicuous smiley face to select a range of emojis. If the recipient is also using Gmail, they'll see the reaction at the bottom of the email thread. This move aligns Gmail more closely with instant messaging platforms like Slack and Microsoft Teams, where quick reactions are the standard.
