According to the French Ministry of Interior, the ban targets members of the 'Raise the Colours' group. These activists have been identified for "searching for and destroying small boats" and engaging in "propaganda activity" aimed at asylum seekers. Interior Minister Laurent Nunez stated on Wednesday that violent or hate-inciting actions have no place on French territory.

The decision follows a series of escalations, including an alleged "aggravated assault" in September 2025 near Dunkirk. Four men carrying British flags reportedly assaulted migrants, warning them they were unwelcome in England. While 'Raise the Colours' claims its activities remain peaceful, French authorities have moved to preempt further vigilantism.

Rising Tensions in the English Channel

The context of these tensions is a record-breaking pace of arrivals. In 2025, more than 41,000 people crossed the English Channel in small boats. Although lower than the 45,000 record set in 2022, the numbers have provided fuel for far-right movements across Europe, who have seized on the issue to advance hardline agendas.
