An on-screen marriage of 11 years wasn't enough to secure an early save-the-date. Modern Family star Eric Stonestreet recently revealed that he waited until just 2 days before his nuptials to notify his long-time co-star, Jesse Tyler Ferguson. The revelation came during the latest episode of Ferguson’s 'Dinner’s On Me' podcast.

The Eric Stonestreet Wedding Surprise and 'Non-Invitations'

According to Entertainment Weekly, Stonestreet married his longtime partner Lindsay Schweitzer in September 2025. Ferguson recalled feeling suspicious when Stonestreet abruptly canceled a trip to New York City, stating he "couldn't say why" he wasn't able to make it.

Stonestreet explained his unorthodox "non-invitation" strategy. To keep the ceremony a surprise for their families, the couple chose to call their inner circle just hours before the event. The goal was to share the joy personally without risking a public leak that might spoil the surprise for their parents and children.

A Bond Beyond the 2020 Series Finale

The level of secrecy was so high that even Schweitzer’s twin sons weren't told until they got home from school on the day of the wedding. Stonestreet didn't want the kids to have to "lie or be weird at school." Despite the last-minute heads-up, the duo's friendship remains ironclad since Modern Family ended its run in 2020.
