Conan O'Brien Reportedly Stopped 911 Call on Rob Reiner's Son Hours Before Director's Murder

Comedian Conan O'Brien reportedly intervened to prevent guests from calling 911 during a heated argument involving filmmaker Rob Reiner and his son, Nick, at a holiday party—just hours before Reiner and his wife were found murdered. Nick Reiner has since been arrested on two counts of first-degree murder.

The incident unfolded on December 13 at O'Brien's Christmas party. According to the Daily Mail, Nick Reiner's behavior became increasingly erratic and alarming during a volatile confrontation with his parents, Rob Reiner and Michele Singer Reiner. The situation grew so intense that some attendees felt compelled to call the police and even suggested a psychiatric hold for Nick.

However, O'Brien, the host, stepped in. "It’s my house, my party, I’m not calling the police," he allegedly told guests, talking them out of contacting authorities. While some guests reportedly understood the desire to avoid a public scene, the argument was described as "pretty intense."

The following day, on December 14, the situation turned tragic. Rob and Michele were found lifeless in their home, and their deaths were ruled a homicide. Nick was arrested five hours later and is currently being held at the Twin Towers Correctional Facility in Los Angeles.

Adding a chilling layer to the events, Rob Reiner had expressed grave fears about his son at the party. The When Harry Met Sally director told an unspecified celebrity guest, "I’m petrified of [Nick]. I can’t believe I’m going to say this, but I’m afraid of my son. I think my own son can hurt me." Friends revealed the couple was "scared for Nick" due to his deteriorating mental health and had brought him to the party because they were reluctant to leave him alone.

Nick's behavior unsettled several others at the party, including actor Bill Hader. Sources told People that Nick was acting "creepily" and interrupting conversations to ask, "Are you famous?" He reportedly froze and stared at Hader before "storming off" when told a discussion was private.

According to TMZ, Nick had been diagnosed with schizophrenia weeks before the incident and had recently undergone a medication adjustment that left him "erratic and dangerous." Described by sources as a "ticking time bomb," he also had a history of substance abuse and had visited a rehab facility nearly 20 times. Nick is expected to plead not guilty by reason of insanity, with his arraignment scheduled for January 7, 2026.
