A year after the regime's collapse, prominent military officers from the ousted administration have been caught on tape discussing plans to destabilize the nation, allegedly with Israeli backing. An investigative program by Al Jazeera has obtained hours of leaked audio revealing a clandestine operation to undermine the new government.

The investigation, titled 'The Investigator,' is built upon more than 74 hours of recordings. It centers on Brigadier-General Suheil al-Hassan, the former commander of the elite Tiger Forces. In the leaks, a source acting as an intermediary assures al-Hassan that "The State of Israel, with all its capabilities, will stand with you."

These officers aren't just talking; they've been attempting to regroup, secure funding, and acquire weapons. The goal is clear: to sabotage the stability achieved since President Ahmed al-Sharaa took office following the end of the 54-year Assad reign in December 2024.

A Year of Instability: Israel's Military Shadow over Syria

While the internal plot thickened, external pressure reached record highs. According to ACLED, Israel launched more than 600 attacks across Syria over the past year—averaging nearly two strikes per day. These operations targeted strategic facilities including airports and air defense systems.

The escalation peaked in July with the bombing of Damascus and further occupation of the Golan Heights. The leaked conversations between al-Hassan and his peers express deep disdain for the current political state, which they derogatorily refer to as "the flood," hoping for its swift end through coordinated destabilization.
