In a briefing with The Verge, Rahul Tikoo, head of AMD's client CPU business, confirmed that the company has fine-tuned its top-tier gaming chip. The new Ryzen 7 9850X3D features the same 8-core / 16-thread architecture but ups the ante with boost clocks reaching 5.6GHz. That's a significant 400MHz increase over the standard 9800X3D.

Performance Gains Through Superior Binning

Despite the faster speeds, the chip maintains the same 120-watt TDP. It's essentially a "better-binned" version of its predecessor, meaning AMD is selecting only the highest-quality silicon capable of hitting these higher frequencies without demanding more power. While actual in-game improvements will vary by title, the increased clock speed will likely bolster minimum frame rates and overall smoothness in CPU-intensive games.
