Music & Charts Terms

• Streaming (스밍): Repeatedly playing songs on music platforms to boost chart rankings.
• Comeback: When an artist releases new music and begins promotions. Not a return from hiatus—just a new release.
• Music Show (음방): Weekly TV programs like Music Bank, Inkigayo where artists perform and compete for #1.
• All-kill: When a song ranks #1 on all major Korean music charts simultaneously.
• Sajaegi (사재기): Chart manipulation through mass purchases. Considered unethical.
• Reverse run (역주행): When an old song suddenly gains popularity. Brave Girls' 'Rollin'' is the most famous example.

Fan Identity Terms

• Bias: Your favorite member in a group. From Korean '최애' (most loved).
• Bias wrecker: A member who makes you question your bias loyalty.

Fan Activity Terms

• Fansign (팬싸): A fan meeting event where fans get albums signed and brief 1:1 time.
• Photocard (포카): Small collectible photo cards included randomly in albums.
• Fancam (직캠): A video focused on one specific member during a performance.
• Fan chant: Organized chants fans do during performances, usually member names.
• Lightstick: Official light-up merchandise unique to each group. ARMY Bomb, Carabong, etc.
• Cup sleeve event: Fan-organized cafe events with custom cup sleeves celebrating birthdays/anniversaries.

• Trainee (연습생): Someone training under an agency to potentially debut as an idol.
• Debut: When a trainee officially becomes an idol with their first release.
• Pre-debut: Content or history from before an idol officially debuted.
• Big 4 (빅4): The four major K-pop agencies: HYBE, SM, JYP, and YG.
• 4th Gen: Groups debuting around 2018-present. aespa, Stray Kids, NewJeans, etc.
