The incident occurred around 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, December 23, at a location in Grand Island, Nebraska. According to KSNB, the victim, identified as Michael Dickinson, was found trapped between his vehicle and the restaurant's payment window.

Grand Island Police Division Chief Dean Elliott told the local news outlet, "It appears the deceased opened the door to further reach out the window for payment purposes." He added, "We're not sure if the vehicle lurched forward or what happened, but he got pinched between the door frame and the drive thru window counter." Police have classified the incident as a "100% a freak accident" and stated no foul play is suspected. Dickinson was confirmed to be the only person in the vehicle.
